1. Two to three weeks before Christmas, visit a tree farm and cut a fresh tree for your home. Keep your tree hydrated by watering it daily when in your home. This will ensure that your tree does not become dry too quickly.
   

1. Check your ornamental lights each year to ensure they are not worn or broken. Never overload electrical outlets and always turn your lights off before going to bed.
   

1. Practice fire safety around the fireplace and make sure stockings are hung with care. Cover fireplace opening with a metal screen to prevent sparks from escaping.
